doctor WHO by =SpookyChan
Christopher Eccleston interviewed for BBC Breakfast television back in 2005, shortly before the press relaunch for Doctor Who.
In which he talks about the central message of the series, his reasons for taking the role, the fans and production values on the show. Obviously passionate about the work he did on the show. Unfortunately cut from the broadcast (but available on the series 1 DVD) were his generous words about the crew he worked with, depreciating his own work to talk about how much love the less spotlighted members of the crew had put into the show. Particularly illuminating in view of his more recent comments about how he left the show, in part, because of the treatment of the crew:
“I didn’t enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in.
“I thought if I stay in this job, I’m going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong.”.
But the 46-year-old said the fact that he played the Doctor – and not that he had quit – was “the most important thing”.
“I really feel that because it kind of broke the mold and it helped to reinvent it. I’m very proud of it,” he adds.”
As he should be.
Television Heroes (#1 in an occasional series): Harriet Jones
Harriet Jones, Prime Minister and MP for Flydale North. Who stood up to the Daleks and the Slitheen and the Sycorax and the Doctor and said “Not today, not here.” Who, when faced with a worldwide crisis or two, puts her best efforts into dispensing soothing hot beverages. Who would have given her life many times over, and eventually did, to to protect her country and her planet. Who was modest and faithful and selfless and so so brave, even at the end.

“After talking about the classic white TARDIS interiors I was reading the novel of Shada, which feels like a slight sidestep from normal Doctor Who and into Douglas Adams-land. That got me picturing a slightly more Adams-y, non-budget restricted 70’s TARDIS interior and I sketched this up…”
