Anonymous asked: Ghost Rider

I can’t really give an informed opinion on this character, because I’m not overly familiar with them. I know the broad strokes of Johnny Blaze’s origin and I’m totally ignorant on the other GR. Danny Ketch, is it?

I do like the Faustian origin and the visual of the character(s), but the whole cool biker thing does seem rather dated, as does the grim and gritty attitude. For me the character seems very rooted in the 80s/90s and hasn’t really been reinvented like a lot of other characters of the period. Grim and gritty can still be done, but it’s best served now, with self awareness and, perhaps, a black sense of humor attached. Ghost Rider seems dated in attitude, as regards that, or perhaps it’s more an image problem where the perception is that the character’s just too 90s.

Either way, I haven’t been really drawn into the character. Garth Ennis did an enjoyably twisted mini a few years back, but it didn’t really change my perception of the character in the long term.
